Forbes May 08, 2013 Back to press

Overnight success Jim Robinson debuts on the Midas List this year after 20 years as a venture capitalist. The cofounder of RRE Ventures made 27 times his money on the firm's 2004 investment in WisdomTree, an ETF money manager. It's now a $1.3 billion public company. His deal with Vocera, a healthcare communications company that went public last March, brought in 9 times his money. Other promising deals include OpenPeak, a mobile device management company, and Quirky, an online community for inventors. While still in college, Robinson founded IV systems, a maker of Unix-based enterprise apps. He later worked as an investment banker at J.P. Morgan. His father, former American Express CEO James Robinson III, is also a partner at RRE.
